DALLAS → FORT WORTH
THINKING ABOUT MOVING WEST?
You don't have to leave DFW to feel like you've moved somewhere completely different. Fort Worth gives you more space, a different pace, + a city that feels a little less polished and a little more lived-in.
Okay, but what’s actually different about Fort Worth?
-
Sometimes. But I wouldn't move here based on that alone.
Your money can often buy more house or land in Fort Worth, but property taxes, insurance, HOA fees and your commute all matter.
The better question is: What does my budget get me in the parts of Fort Worth I actually want to live in?
-
Yes. But please test the commute before you buy.
DFW is huge, and “Fort Worth to Dallas” doesn't tell me nearly enough. Your office location, work schedule and how often you're commuting matter.
A cheaper house isn't necessarily cheaper if you're spending hours every week getting to it.
-
That depends entirely on what you're trying to recreate, or get away from.
Want something urban? Look at Near Southside, Downtown and the Cultural District.
Want established neighborhoods and character? Fairmount, Arlington Heights, Ryan Place, Mistletoe Heights and Ridglea Hills.
Want newer construction? North Fort Worth, Alliance, Haslet, Northlake and Argyle.
Want more space? Start looking west toward Aledo, Weatherford and Parker County.
-
Assuming Fort Worth is one thing.
It's not.
Don't pick a house because you love the photos. Don't pick a neighborhood because someone on TikTok said it's “up and coming.” And definitely don't choose based solely on the purchase price.
Choose the life first. Then choose the house.
-
Maybe you're looking for more house for your money.
Maybe you're tired of the commute, the traffic, or the feeling that everything has to be bigger, newer and busier.
Maybe you want a backyard.
Maybe you want a neighborhood with actual personality.
Or maybe you're just ready for something that feels a little more like you.
Fort Worth isn't better than Dallas. It's different.
And for some people, that's exactly the point.
-
Nope.
This is one of the biggest things I want Dallas buyers to understand.
Some of the places people consider when moving west including Aledo, Benbrook, Keller, North Richland Hills, Weatherford, Northlake and Argyle offer completely different lifestyles while still keeping you in the Fort Worth orbit.
That's why I like figuring out how you want to live first, then picking the city.
-
Fort Worth has a lot of it.
Especially as you move north and west.
But new construction isn't automatically the better financial decision. Builder incentives, upgrades, lot premiums, HOA fees, property taxes and insurance can change the numbers quickly.
I'll happily show you the pretty kitchen. I'll also tell you what that pretty kitchen is actually costing you.
-
This is one of my favorite reasons to live here.
You've got parks, trails, lakes, biking, green space and plenty of ways to get outside without making your entire weekend a road trip.
And if your ideal Saturday involves coffee + a walk + being somewhere with actual trees, Fort Worth has a lot to offer.
-
Depends where you go.
That's why I don't want to hear “I want Fort Worth.”
I want to know:
Do you want walkability? A big yard? Restaurants? New construction? Historic homes? Land? A short commute?
There are very different versions of Fort Worth.
It's not about which city is better. It's about which one fits the life you're trying to build.
What are you trading?
If you're leaving Dallas for...
A smaller urban footprint
Higher density neighborhoods
A very polished feel
More space
Larger lots
More neighborhood character
Certain housing prices
Urban convenience
A faster pace
You might gain…
More house for your budget
More outdoor access
A different rhythm
