Living in Grapevine, Texas
The short answer: Grapevine is a lake-and-airport suburb in northeastern Tarrant County, with a historic Main Street district, Grapevine Lake nearby and DFW Airport right next door. It sits closer to the Dallas side of the metro than most of the places on my Fort Worth list, so the first question is where you spend your week. If your life is centered in Fort Worth, test the drive before you get attached.
Grapevine at a glance
These are the facts I could confirm from published sources.
According to the Texas State Historical Association, Grapevine is in northeastern Tarrant County along State Highways 114 and 121, with portions extending into Dallas and Denton counties.
TSHA says the first Anglo settlement came in 1844, the town was incorporated on February 12, 1907, and the railroad arrived in 1888.
TSHA says the Grapevine Dam was built from 1948 to 1952, creating Grapevine Lake for flood control and recreation.
TSHA says construction of Dallas-Fort Worth Regional Airport began southeast of the city in 1965 and the airport opened in 1974, and that the airport became the city's top employer.
TSHA describes Grapevine as expanding its hospitality and tourism industries and hosting annual festivals, and calls it the "Christmas Capital of Texas." The 2020 population it lists is 50,631.
The city's tourism site describes a historic Main Street district for food and shopping.
How Grapevine compares with living in Fort Worth
Grapevine is its own city, not part of Fort Worth, and it is geographically on the other side of the metro. If your work, family or daily errands are in Fort Worth, it will feel farther away than the west-side and north-side suburbs.
If your work is at or near DFW Airport, in Grapevine or on the Dallas side, the picture flips and it can be a convenient location. The point is to match the place to your week, not to the map.
My take: Grapevine is a good example of why I tell people to pick the place before they pick the house. A great home in the wrong commute stops feeling great fast.

What to check before you buy in Grapevine
School zoning. Verify the district and assigned schools for the exact address with the district itself, not from a listing.
The drive. Grapevine sits near airport traffic and major highways. Test your real commute and weekend routes.
Flight paths and noise. If a home is near DFW Airport, visit at different times of day and ask about noise.
The full monthly cost. Property taxes, HOA dues, insurance and any special district fees add up. The cost of living page covers the framework.
